Changes to the requirements for heavy vehicle J and P Code modifications under VSB6, formally announced by NHVR
The National Heavy Vehicle Regulator (NHVR) has formally implemented changes to the requirements for heavy vehicle J and P Code modifications under VSB6.
Previous Victorian policy allowed the fitment of bodies (J Code) and tow couplings, fifth wheels and king pin installations (P Codes), to be carried out without certification or affixing a modification plate to new vehicles prior to first registration.
The NHVR has advised industry, from 1 July 2015 all VSB6 J and P Code modifications to all new and second hand vehicles, must be approved through issuing of a modification certificate and affixing a modification plate to the vehicle, by an approved vehicle examiner (AVE).
The NHVR’s J and P Code modifications fact sheet, issued July 2015, outlines the new approved modification/certification procedures, and the fitment of additional equipment under J and P Codes by an original equipment manufacturer (OEM).
The fact sheet is available on the NHVR’s website. Read more
